Chain maille Pattern Descriptions

Chain maille has always been known for its strength. Often used as armor, it creates a bold look and allows the wearer to express a strong image of herself. While some might dispute whether all my designs actually qualify as chain maille, since they are not all merely patterns of repeating rings of various sizes, they all represent strength and a strong sense of self. When I set out to create beautiful crystal chain maille jewelry for the modern women, I did not want to limit myself to only existing patterns or conventions on chain maille. In fact, I wanted to do something entirely new and different. I wanted to design with a multitude of lovely components and brilliant Swarovski and Czech Cut Crystals, while still holding true to a theme of strength and beauty. To me, these designs do just that, turning the traditional conventions of chain maille on their ear by taking a very masculine form of armor and turning it into something beautiful and feminine while still maintaining a sense of strength. I hope you enjoy wearing them as much as I enjoyed creating them. - Victoria

Crystal Flower Chain Maille Pattern

Crystal Flower Chain Maille Pattern I took inspiration from several traditional patterns of chain maille, including orbital patterns from both Japanese and European chain maille, to create this unique design. Sometimes, simply incorporating crystals causes a pattern to take an entirely new shape. Such was the case with the Crystal Flower Chain maille pattern. While trying to create an orbital design, whereby the rings would surround or orbit another ring or crystal, I came up with this pattern, where a cluster of four double-sided Swarovski Crystal Rose Montees would orbit a ring, creating a dazzling flower pattern that could be incorporated into a multitude of designs.

Pyramid Pattern

Pyramid Pattern I created this pattern using curved bar components, jumprings, and Swarovski or Czech Cut crystals to build a sturdy yet flexible pattern that can curve to its wearer’s shape. This was perhaps more an engineering feat than a creative design, as it took much experimentation with different shapes and sizes of rings and components to create a design that was sturdy, flexible, and feminine all at the same time. The results allow for an endless possibility of sparkling creations.

Chain Maille Ribbon Pattern

dscn7039 Similar to Japanese Chain Maille, this pattern uses perpendicular rings to make connections. However, all the rings are of a uniform size, which creates an entirely different texture. This unique pattern uses Swarovski Crystal Rose Montees and many, many, many tiny round jumprings to construct a flexible ribbon of sparkling crystal chain maille.

Rhombus Rumba Pattern

dscn7362 The inspiration for the Rhombus Rumba pattern came out of the desire to create a more traditional chain maille base for my jewelry; that is one that only used a variety of jumprings, rather than crystals as well, to create a form. I incorporated different sizes of round and oval jumprings to create a lovely diamond of chain maille, which I then attached to crystals to create my signature look.

Japanese Crystal Chain Maille Flat Weave

Japanese Crystal Chain Maille Flat Weave While not as well known as European or 4-to-1 Chain maille, Japanese Chain maille is perhaps even more lovely due to it’s very precise geometric patterns forming tightly-knit weaves of silver and gold. While more traditional chain maille only uses one or two rings at every point of connection, Japanese Chain maille uses two, three, or four rings at every point, creating a strong yet flexible pattern that you could get lost in for hours. My interpretation of this ancient style of chain maille weaves delicate Swarovski and Czech Cut Crystals into the pattern, creating shimmering accessories to complement the strong, modern woman. The most difficult part of this design was experimenting with different sizes of silver-plated jump rings and crystal chatons montees in order to get the jewelry to lay just right. Even just 1mm of difference in the jump rings can really change the whole look of the piece.
